Born and raised in Sydney, Oliver Tanner grew up with an appreciation for art and design. His parent’s interest in creative pursuits and his father’s architectural practice, as well as a fortunate friendship with artist Bronwyn Oliver set him on a path towards creative pursuits at an early age.
First taught by Bronwyn to operate a blowtorch and work copper at 15, Oliver pursued an education in the art’s after being selected for the Art Express touring exhibition upon leaving high school and first attended COFA and then the National Arts School in Sydney.
Post graduation he completed courses at the New York Studio School and a residency at the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing as well as spending a year in Berlin which culminated in a large commission for the Bei Wu Sculpture Park.
In his Sydney studio, he now creates both art and bespoke design projects, combining tradition techniques like casting methods thousands of years old with the possibilities offered by the advances in CAD and digital fabrication.
